Alpine Rock Cottage is an idyllic rural 6ha setting just 5kms from the centre of Te Anau. We live the Kiwi dream on what is commonly known as a lifestyle block and we have a small collection of farm animals eg sheep, alpacas, cattle.

The perfect base for your visit to:

Fiordland Southland Queenstown

Te Anau is 5kms from our front door so you will need your own transport to get to township where you will find all the amenities and conveniences you would expect from a top destination including a range of fine restaurants and cafes, a complete shopping experience, supermarkets, pharmacy, medical facilities, cinema and beauty facilities. There is a range of of sporting facilities including newly opened tennis courts, a public swimming pool and biking trails.

A day trip to Milford Sound and Doubtful Sound is an easy option from our cottage and taking an overnight cruise at either destination is made simple by staying a night either side of your adventure at our cottage. You can then leave your vehicle and surplus luggage securely at our place free of charge.

We highly recommend kayaking at Milford Sound as the best way to truly discover this unique region.

The Kepler Track is just a few minutes from our cottage and the departure points for other Great Walks Tracks (Milford, Routeburn, Hollyford, Rakiura) are all within an easy drive.

Queenstown, Stewart Island, Invercargill and The Catlins are all within a 2 hour drive from Te Anau.

"Jan and Jeff were the absolute best hosts we could have possibly asked for during our stay in Te Anau. Jan greeted us as we pulled up and immediately offered us tea and snacks and chatted with us about our plans for vacation for a good 30 minutes. She had fabulous recommendations about where to eat, what to do in Te Anau, and what to do near Milford Sound. Jan and Jeff were both amazingly generous with their time, providing accommodations, refreshments ect. The room, which has a private bathroom and storage area for luggage, was phenomenal and even better than advertised. Breakfast, which Jeff made fresh each morning, was phenomenal and made to order. Jan and Jeff were very flexible with the timing of breakfast as well, and really catered to our plans, which was much appreciated. If you are staying in Te Anau and really want to experience all it has to offer, this is probably the best place to stay. The surrounding rural community is beautiful and we definitely experienced more of it because of Jan's recommendations!e". Nathan.  Salt Lake City, Utah
